If you thought gardening in Wivey was hard with the constant rain, spare thought for those who very rarely get any. Terry Evans has been taking a rest from tilling the soil at Langley House to visit Torren in Mexico.

He was in such an arid spot to observe the Total Eclipse of the Sun on the 8th of April. However, he did take some of Somerset’s best clouds along and they did obscure the view of the partial phase with the sun only visible every now and again.

However, the clouds did magically clear to give a reasonable view of the fantastic spectacle as it went dark for 4 minutes 28 seconds as the moon passed in front of the sun.


It all ended far too soon,though, as the sun peeped out from behind the moon to give the Diamond Ring next to one of the prominences that danced around the sun’s edge.

If you were wondering, the next eclipse visible in Wiveliscombe will be on 23rd September 2090 and last for a fairly measly 12 seconds. Worth staying at home for if you’re still around!
